Q.WHAT THE HELL IS A ROVER?
A. A Male or Female Homosapien,
between the age of 18 and 26, dedicated to fun and adventure while serving the Community in a Scouting way.
Rovers are the most senior of the Youth Sections in the Scout Movements and cater to the ages
18 - 26 years old. Rovers are attached to many Scout Groups in Australia (and around the World)
and benifit from all the wonderful opportunity that Scouting can provide, but have the added
benifit of being self-governed. This means that we operate all our own programs and organise
all our own activities and events.
This give us the chance to learn leadership skills and share the talents and abilities of each
individual in the Crew. It also gives us opportunities to undertake large scale events such as
the organisation of our States largest annual event, BANANA BASH, or even work together in the
running of a MOOT, the Rover equivelent of a Jamboree.
Rovers focus on the Intellectual, Social, Emotional, Physical and Spiritual development of the
Individual (which is the aim of all Scouting), and provides wonderful opportunities for it's
members to grow in all these ways and get to know a great deal of people and make friends for
life. We do a broad range of activites from the everyday to the very different and a good deal
of traditional camping, hiking, abseiling/climbing and canoeing etc.
Rovers come from all manner of backgrounds and are made up of both young people who work or
study and so have a great chance to meet people you wouldn't otherwise interact with and also
means that we have a great range of talents and expertise to call on when needed.
To find your local Crew you can contact Your local Scouting Branch or Movement. If you check
out our links page, we have the Branch/Rover website for all the Australian States, as well as
the Australian and World Scout Organisation sites.
